Does this sound familiar?
Many of my clients struggle with dating and relationship anxiety, find it difficult to communicate their emotions, or may feel lonely and misunderstood, scared of being too much or not enough for their partner. They may have relationship trauma that shapes how they trust others. Or they might've gone through a breakup and are grieving, feeling stuck, or it is a crush that consumes their mind. They crave intimacy but also feel overwhelmed by it, distance themselves, ghost, prioritize work, or shut down when someone gets too close. Or they find themselves drawn to unavailable people because it's familiar. They may have trouble setting boundaries, people-please, or sacrifice their needs out of fear of rejection. They over-analyze every sign from the other person, constantly trying to figure out where they stand. Or maybe worry if they're the right person at all, not sure about what it is that they really want.
How I help
Psychodynamic Therapy
First, we get to the root of it. I apply psychodynamic therapy to look at where these patterns started, often in very early relationships. We'll explore the unconscious beliefs you've internalized about love, closeness, and your own worth, and connect them to what's happening in your relationships now.
Somatic Therapy
But the work doesn’t stop at insight. I also use somatic therapy to help you notice what happens in your body when you’re anxious or shut down. Sometimes you may understand something intellectually, but still find yourself reacting strongly. Together, we’ll learn to recognize these sensations as they happen, so you can feel more in control of how you respond.
EFT and Attachment Therapy
At the core of my work is an attachment-based approach, informed by Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). I look beyond what’s happening on the surface to understand the fears, needs, and experiences underneath that shape the way you relate to yourself and others. Whether you tend to pull away, overthink, seek reassurance, or have a hard time letting people in, these patterns often make sense in the context of your experiences. Together, we’ll work to develop a more secure relationship with yourself, and create meaningful change in how you navigate relationships.
Specializations
I believe relationships have a way of bringing our deepest insecurities, fears, and needs to the surface. And as painful as that can be, they also offer an opportunity to better understand ourselves and heal old wounds.
This is why my clinical expertise lies in:
Dating and Relationships
Anxious, Avoidant and Disorganized Attachment
Relationship OCD
Breakups and Divorce
Anxiety, Self-doubt and Self-esteem
Relationship Trauma
People-Pleasing and Boundaries
Background
I earned my bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Deusto and Radboud University, and my master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Brooklyn College.
My clinical experience spans community mental health, college counseling, and private practice. I believe change starts with feeling truly seen and supported by another person. My own experience adapting to different cultures has also taught me how important it is to feel understood as an individual, not for the boxes you check.
I currently practice as a Mental Health Counselor-LP under clinical supervision in New York State at Gaining Ground Mental Health Counseling, PLLC, a private group practice in New York City.
At Gaining Ground, we are committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based and trauma-informed care that centers each client’s lived experience. We believe healing happens in the context of connection, and we strive to create a therapeutic environment rooted in safety, compassion, love, and belonging.
My Style
I’d say I’m a pretty warm and down-to-earth person. I believe therapy can be meaningful and challenging while still feeling human and even funny at times! I want you to feel comfortable being yourself with me. You don’t have to have the “right” words or know exactly what you need from therapy. We can figure that out together.
Everyone Is Welcome Here.
I believe therapy should be a place where everyone feels respected and free to be themselves. I offer an inclusive and nonjudgmental environment for people of all backgrounds and identities.
I provide gender-affirming and LGBTQ+ affirming care, and welcome people of all gender identities and expressions, sexual orientations, and relationship structures. I also recognize the ways that race, ethnicity, culture, religion, spirituality, ability, socioeconomic background, and immigration experiences can shape our lives and our experiences in therapy.
Your identity and culture are an important part of who you are, and I want therapy to be a place where those parts of you can be seen and respected.
